It’s late on a Monday night, but this evening in Paris, Ireland was celebrated not once, but twice at the World Restaurant Awards 2019.
Ballymaloe House and Paradiso, both in Cork, were revealed as nominees in January for the global event.
Tonight they’ve gone from nominees to winners.
Paradiso: Collaboration of the Year
Paradiso took the honour of Collaboration of the Year for their work with Gortnanain farm.
“There are countless examples of close chef-farmer collaborations, but this holds remarkable longevity and synergy” read a short statement from the World Restaurant Awards via Twitter.
And the obligatory crowd video…
Ballymaloe: Trolley of the Year
If you’ve got a sweet tooth and like your trolley service, then you’ll now find the best in the world at Ballymaloe House.
“For the last decade the trolley’s contents have been overseen by head pastry chef JR Ryall”, offer the winners notes on the official website.
“Expect homemade ice creams and granitas, always a tart of some kind, whatever stone fruit is in season, poached and swimming in a sweet syrup, a panna cotta, a crème brûlée and maybe a fruit fool served with his trademark heart-shaped shortbread biscuits.”
If ever you needed further proof that Cork is one seriously special place for food in Ireland, this is it.
