My guest in studio and on the podcast this week is Morgan Ging of the award-winning Ballykeefe Distillery in Kilkenny.
The original series of producer talks has been airing on my radio show – KCLR Drive – Wednesday afternoons with thanks to the folks at Anocht Restaurant and the Kilkenny Design Foodhall.
Ballykeefe Distllery is located roughly ten minutes outside of Kilkenny City, producing award-winning spirits from the family farm.
While they’ve been scooping up the accolades for their gin, vodka and poteen, the countdown is on to the first Ballykeefe whiskey in 2020.
I chat with Morgan about that, transitioning from farming to spirit production and how he’s been able to give back to his local community and support those supporting him.
We’ll let him make the introductions…
They’ve got September 1st 2020 pencilled in as the launch date for their whiskey, by the way.
Their Ballykeefe Gin won Gold at the World Gin Awards 2019, while their Poitín was awarded Master Class at the 2018 Global Spirits Masters and a further award of Gold at the Irish Whiskey Awards 2018.
The Ballykeefe Vodka won the wonderful accolade of Best Irish Vodka at the Irish Whiskey Awards 2018.
Next week on the podcast…
Next week I’m back on the restaurant trail for the Food Provenance Award with a lunchtime stop at Billy Byrne’s on John Street in Kilkenny.
