If you’ve ever wanted to hit an outdoor market after hours, you’ve got a fine chance this weekend.

The Mountain View Markets in Ballyhale, Co. Kilkenny, began this year’s season way back at St. Patrick’s weekend, introducing new flavours, new foods, new coffee and pastry offerings, new traders, makers, designers and more to a public that’s travelled from all corners of the island to take in the sights, sounds and smells overlooking the south of the county.

Now, or at least this Saturday, the regular season comes to a close with a sunset market offering, packing over 100 stalls filled with street food, vintage attire, crafts and more. Kick off is 3pm, running until 9pm, with Brand New Retro spinning tunes until late. It’s a dog-friendly affair and it’s BYOB this weekend if you fancy having a tipple in the outdoors. As a bonus, it’s looking like the weather in Kilkenny will be fairly decent this Saturday, but you know yourself, dress for the occasion. Once the curtain falls on Saturday’s market (and they’re typically Sunday), it’s a case of downing tools until November with the Christmas/winter markets getting underway on Sunday 23 November.

This summer has already seen a pottery market, yoga social, the introduction of their own ‘Loaded’ food truck doing some bangin’ loaded fries, a dog show, art market, vintage market and more, so if you’ve missed out or have been planning a first visit, time is ticking.

From the aforementioned pastries and coffees, you’ll find anything from Asian street food to Carribbean jerk chicken, juicy burgers to Polish hot dogs, zesty Mexican tacos, to sweets, treats and anything else that’s likely to tickle your food fancy. My tip – bring the wallet, arrive early, park up, eat first, stroll about, eat again, job done.
