Good news for pizza lovers in Kilkenny – the city’s newest Italian restaurant is to open its doors on Monday 8 April.
Long established in Carlow, Caffe500 has been a work-in-progress in public view since the tail end of last year, taking up residency in what was most recently the Tiempo tapas bar and Willoughby’s café prior to that, right on the corner of High Street and Ormonde Street on The Parade. It had been originally thought the doors would open this past Tuesday or Wednesday but the official first service will run a week from Monday.
The restaurant team made the announcement on Thursday evening with a quick update via their Facebook page.
“We are delighted to announce the grand opening on April 8th from 6pm of our NEW Caffè 500, a restaurant focused on truly authentic Italian cuisine with pizzas baked in an Italian oven, delicious pasta dishes, and desserts prepared strictly according to regional Italian recipes! After months of hard work to create an authentic and welcoming atmosphere, we are thrilled to open our doors and share all our delicacies and specialties with you!” (sic)
“Join us for a special day of tastings, where you can walk in and delight your palate with the genuine flavours of Italian cuisine. It will be an unforgettable experience in every sense! We can’t wait to welcome you to our new space and share with you the passion for good food and Italian hospitality. We look forward to celebrating this special moment together with you!”
Their base on Carlow’s Kennedy Street opened in summer 2017 and has gone from strength to strength, with a bustling take-out service alongside their dine-in offerings. In year where we’ve already seen two eateries in close proximity close their doors (The Cutting Vedge, The Ground Floor), it’s great to see another restaurant take up the task. As locations go, it’s going to be hard to beat.
Wishing Luca, Marco and all the team the very best for their Kilkenny adventure.
