Ireland’s Foodie Destinations 2019 shortlist is out.
Announced today by the Restaurants Association of Ireland, the 10 finalists battling it out for Kilkenny’s crown have been revealed.
Kilkenny has enjoyed a fairly solid year of promotion on the tourism front off the back of last year’s overall title.
As winner, they weren’t eligible to enter this year but can throw their name into the hat again from 2020 on.
Foodie Destinations 2019 Finalists
The 2019 Finalists are:
- Mid & East Antrim Borough
- Taste Causeway/Causeway Coast and Glens Borough
- Cavan
- The Food Coast Donegal
- Galway
- Monaghan & Glaslough
- Waterford
- Donegal Town
- Tralee
It’s a fairly spread out selection, running from Kerry and Waterford in the south through Donegal and the Causeway Coast.
I’d be curious to see where Donegal places if there’s divisions between the town and ‘food coast’ but it’ll be a great boost for the county nonetheless.
What’s it all about?
Foodie Destinations is an initiative run by the Restaurants Association of Ireland, that aims to find the ultimate foodie destination in Ireland.
The programme looks for an area that promotes it’s food activities, established a local producer/supplier network and creates great dining experiences for locals and visitors alike.
Education, training and development will also be key components of the winner of Foodie Destinations 2019.
Voting isn’t open just yet mind you – it will kick off on Wednesday next, 24 July, and continues through Thursday 20 August.
The overall winner – along with this year’s Foodie Town winner – will be announced at the end of August.
