A popular spot on the Sligo food trail, Hooked has been named the Bord Bia Just Ask Restaurant of the Year 2019.
Hooked is a favourite of locals and visitors alike to Yeats County and Sligo town.
The restaurant opened its doors in 2017 under former RAI chairman, Anthony Gray. Gray had previously opened Eala Bhán in Sligo town with Joe McGlynn as head chef. McGlynn was previously in Eala Bhán.
Hooked is inspired by the traditional butcher’s shop which Anthony’s father Joe had in Sligo for many years.
Joe Gray supplied the town with handmade award winning products and Anthony wanted to incorporate a piece of his family history when opening in 2017.
The name itself, Hooked, comes from the old meat hooks used in the shop.
Local suppliers in Sligo include Cosgroves shop, Feeney’s Meats, Ballisodare Free Range Eggs, Sligo L.E.T.S. Organic Centre, and Sherlocks of Tubbercurry.
Hooked is open seven days a week for brunch, lunch and an evening menu. Early birds can also enjoy breakfast starting at 9.30am from Thursday to Sunday.

What’s the whole ‘Just Ask’ thing about?
“Just Ask!” is a public awareness campaign that aims to encourage consumers when eating out to look for information on where the food (particularly meat) on their plate comes from, and encourages chefs to provide this information on their menus.
The programme supports both large and smaller artisan suppliers, encouraging both Irish diners and visitors from abroad to support restaurants that are in turn supporting their suppliers.
