Savour Kilkenny is done and dusted for another year. I’m churro’d / muffined / curried / lobstered out. Stick a fork in me after two days of trapsing the Castle Road and The Parade, I’m done. I may have also dropped €30-something on chocolates (down from €60) but that’s another thing.

Despite rough weather on Saturday evening for the late extension to the annual Savour market, crowds weren’t deterred again this year with organisers estimating that in the region of 57,000 people attended this year’s festival between the ticketed events taking place around the county to the food market, workshops, talks and demonstrations on the Parade.

Among those taking to the stage over the past four days included Ballymaloe chefs Darina Allen (pictured above by Dylan Vaughan), Rachel Allen and Rory O’Connell, along with the likes of Kevin Dundon (Dunbrody House), Jess Murphy (Kai Galway), Arun Kapil (Green Saffron) and local favourites TV chef and KCLR’s Saturday Show host Edward Hayden and Anne Neary (Rylands House).

“Our team is thrilled with the overwhelming success and positive response we have received for Savour Kilkenny Food Festival 2023”, says festival organiser Marian Flannery who will also be overseeing proceedings for Yulefest in Kilkenny this December.

“We believe in celebrating the diversity and richness of Irish cuisine, and this year’s festival has truly exemplified that. We are grateful to all the talented chefs, food producers, local businesses, sponsors, volunteers and, most importantly, the food enthusiasts who made this event a huge success. We’re looking forward to what 2024 has in store.”

Yesterday’s closing day proceedings shifted the focus from food to dogs for Madra Monday, hosted by singer Jake Carter as the marquees remain on the Parade but open to animal lovers to wind out the bank holiday with some doggie fun.
