Savour Kilkenny teases online return with virtual programme of events through November & December

On what should have been a busy festival weekend, Savour Kilkenny announces a ten week programme in the run up to Christmas.

The October Bank Holiday weekend is built around the Savour Kilkenny Food Festival – for me at least.

From heaving restaurant events to a buzzing two-day market, talks, demos, book swaps and more, the festival has built quite the reputation for itself.

Around 50,000 annually descend on Kilkenny for the Savour weekend, pumping some serious money into the local economy. Alas, with Covid-19 tearing the backside out of almost every cut of event since March, Savour too bowed out of the festival calendar earlier this year.

Now, it’s looking like a winter return as a way of continuing at least some of the festival activities.

Per, Ger Mulally (festival chairperson), “this year we’re going online for a period of ten weeks, starting on Wednesday 4 November.”

“On Wednesday evenings at 7pm we will have Savour Kitchen, a number of demonstrations by celebrity chefs, helped enormously by Edward Hayden. On Friday nights at 8pm we will have Savour Food Stories from a number of people who have run their own businesses. They will be giving advice and giving their story. Saturday morning then is for kids at 10am. So, all of this is online. We’ll have a number of other events like the Savour 60 Second Pitch where entrepeneurs will pitch their businesses to you.

We look forward to seeing you. It’s thanks to Kilkenny County Council and LEO (Local Enterprise Office Kilkenny) that we can do this and we also want to thank Marian Flannery and her team for managing the events.”

Further to that, when you take a peek at SavourKilkenny.com you’ll find the promise of “warming recipes, wine talks, wellness advice and insights into where our food is produced”.

It all kicks off 7pm on Wednesday 4 November – set your alarms.
