As of tonight we’ve got three out of four provinces checked as the Munster winners of the Irish Restaurant Awards have been announced.
Eateries from Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford were all represented with winners heading onto the regional and national final on 13 May.
The awards covered a wide range of venues and the winners from each of Munster’s six counties were selected from the following categories: Best Casual Dining, Best Emerging Irish Cuisine, Best Kids Size Me, Best ‘Free From’, Best World Cuisine, Best Restaurant Manager, Best Wine Experience, Pub of the Year, Best Café, Best Customer Service, Best Gastro Pub, Best Hotel & Guesthouse Restaurant, Best Newcomer, Best Chef and Best Restaurant.
There were few surprises in the best restaurant winners – Cork’s Ichigo Ichie, Wild Honey Inn (Lisdoonvarna) and The Tannery (Dungarvan) among the elite.
Having bagged a Michael star last Autumn, Mews Restaurant’s Ahmet Dede was named Cork’s best chef, while Wade Murphy picked up the same for 1826 Adare in Limerick.

There was also a special regional award for Munster’s Local Food Hero – that award going to Chad Byrne of Chef Collab in Killarney.
The Connaught winners will be announced in the fourth and final regional event this coming Tuesday.
