While it’s still six months away, the planning never really seems to stop around the Savour Kilkenny Food Festival.
One of Ireland’s favourite food festivals, and one of the last of ‘the big ones’ in the calendar year, Savour Kilkenny is set to return for its 16th outing this year with bumper crowds already expected to hit Kilkenny over the last weekend in October. Estimates put festival attendees at over 50,000 in 2022, surpassing 57,000 for 2023.
Those numbers make for a long of hungry mouths to feed in Kilkenny, the majority of them in the one spot with the Savour Kilkenny market taking over The Parade and Castle Road for the duration of the festival. The market itself, which also plays host to countless talks, demos, street entertainment, the craft beer tent (now the Brewers & Distillers Marquee) and more, runs for two days – the Saturday and Sunday – from early ’til late.
As such, this year’s Savour Market will take place on Saturday 26 October and Sunday 27 October from 10am to 6pm, with a special night market on Saturday from 6-9pm on the Parade Plaza in the city centre. The market attracts over 100 food trucks and stalls from all corners of the country, representing some of the best in local, artisan and street food that Ireland has to offer.
Applications for traders have opened today (8 April) and if you’re considering applying then you’ve got until 8 May to get your forms in. The rate for hot food and drink stalls (3m x 3m, bringing your own) is €525 plus VAT, or €350 plus VAT for other forms. Other sized stalls/trucks etc. are priced based on requirements, with cost breakdown available during the application process.
