Burger Fest is upon us.
The Joe’s Special is one of the finest burgers you’re ever going to come across. Granted, I may be a tad biased being from Kilkenny and Joe’s takeaway in Irishtown being one of the finest institutions in the land (again, biased), but there’s a lot to be said for a good burger.
If you happen to be after a good burger in January, then you might be interested in Burger Fest as restaurants and takeaways around the country get set to celebrate all things burger related from 22 to 28 January. Yes, there are vegan options available too.
And just what is Burger Fest?
The Festival Crew (who are behind the likes of Cork Food Festival, Oktoberfest Beag and FEAST) have teamed up with Ballymaloe Relish for a nationwide celebration of burgers.
Across the week, bars, restaurants, cafes, hotels, fast food outlets and even butchers all across Ireland can create and showcase their version of “Irelands Best Burger” .
Expect Burger Fest pop up nights, tasting events, man versus food challenges and creating daily burger specials. All that burger competition? Count me in!
In Kilkenny, we’ve got the likes of Grogan & Brown Artisan Butchers and newly opened Hungry Moose on John Street, but the lion’s share of the action takes place in Cork. Electric, Sober Lane, The Bodega, West Cork Burger and Lemon Leaf Cafe are just some taking part.
Dublin, Wexford, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and beyond also boast a good number of Burger Fest participating restaurants and eateries.
Check out the full list of venues taking part here or if you’re looking to get involved yourself, email burger@thefestivalcrew.com.
